It was a farm community for most of its history, became a town in 1983 and a city in 2001, and grew quickly as St. Charles County pushed west. Forty percent of households have children at home and nearly three quarters are married-couple households, the highest family share of any city we serve. Daily life is close at hand. Target, Schnucks, JCPenney, and the Marcus theater are all inside the city limits, and the restaurants and services along Highway N and Bryan Road cover most errands. St. Charles Community College opened its Dardenne Creek Campus here in 2017, and the Field to Table Institute for culinary arts followed in 2019. The Dardenne Prairie Athletic Association runs youth sports, and the city hosts community events at City Hall Park through the year.
